After a long and very difficult time, retirement homes can finally host real-life entertainment for their residents again. I was extremely excited to receive my first booking since the lockdowns from Lisa Marie at Moat Park, a beautiful retirement village in Essex.
Lisa Marie wanted to restart the entertainment programme with a bang and pulled out all the stops. She planned a Spanish menu, decorated the venue with flags and flower garlands and booked yours truly 🙂
The residents dressed up for the occasion, with some opting for full matador and Flamenco dancer attire and others choosing to simply dress up in celebratory evening wear. I could feel the atmosphere was full of excited anticipation as I made arrangements with the photographer and finalised the technical side of my performance.
Lisa Marie had booked my Flamenco show followed by mingling and interaction. Of course, given the times, we had also discussed Covid-safety measures. If you’d like to know more about that, please consult my page about health and safety during the pandemic.
After dinner, I started my 45-minute entertainment programme. It was great to feel everyone’s excitement and attention, and to get everyone to clap along to the music. I could sense the joy in the room and it gave me so much energy. I performed two passionate, celebratory Flamenco dances incorporating all the traditional elements of Flamenco dance: beautiful arm and hand movements, proud and expressive posture, fast spins and energetic footwork.
After my performance I invited the bravest up onto the dance floor. Then we took pictures together and chatted about Spanish culture, with the residents sharing memories from holidays and about dancing.
