Welcome back to my 10-part series “Planning the perfect Spanish theme party”. I’m covering party planning, food, drink, entertainment, activities, music, decorations, birthday parties, dance parties, and invitations and favours.
This is part 8: Spanish themed party invitations and favours. The beginning and end of your party.
Beyond the essential information (occasion, time, place, how to RSVP, dress code, expectations), how can you get your guests excited for your Spanish theme party from the moment they receive your invitation? And how can you ensure they take away a precious memory from your party? Let’s find out!

Creative ideas for your invitation design and content
This is your party so why not amplify the things that matter to you, show your guests how excited you are and how important it is for you that they join your celebration. From the way to go, use your party as a means of expression, to celebrate what’s important to you and share that with your nearest in dearest! These are some ideas to spark your creativity:
- Use colours, symbols and pictures to give a taste for what your party will be like.
- Experiment with textures and layers to express yourself.
- Underline the importance of the occasion with expressive, out-of-the-ordinary language.
- Use memorable song lyrics or even insert a song (if sending digitally) to create an atmosphere already.
- Include your plans and expectations to set the scene. Will it be an exuberant dance party or a sophisticated dinner party?
Now for a few administrative things. Stay with me, it won’t be boring 😉 but help with the success of your celebration.
Planning for perfection
Answering the following questions honestly and realistically will help you assess your resources and plan for perfection.
- How many people are you inviting?
- What’s the occasion?
- What’s your budget?
- How much time would you like to invest?
- Do you enjoy arts and crafts?
Should I send digital or real invitations?
Sending a digital invitation is usually quicker, cheaper, more environmentally-friendly and safer than using the post. But in this day and age of mass online communication, receiving a real letter can feel very special and carry a lot of meaning. Even if sending post, you can use recycled paper, sustainable glitter or cards from ethical card makers to minimise your invitations’ carbon footprint.
DYI vs. buying vs. commissioning
To be honest, the budget will probably play a major role in this decision. But beyond that, and whichever option you choose, it’s an opportunity for self-expression and creativity. When crafting yourself or commissioning, make sure you plan in plenty of time. You might find my post on party planning helpful with deciding on your timeline.
Now let’s have a look at favours.

How to make favours meaningful and useful
It’s important for your favours to not be wasteful. You don’t want them to end up in your guests bin. So don’t let them become generic and just do them because “you have to”. They are your final expression and, if done right, will be a forever reminder of how wonderful your party was. For every guest, the favour will evoke an individual special memory.
A slightly crazy party favour idea
As I hinted at in my post about decorations for a Spanish theme party, it could be an unusual idea to actually give away some of the decorations – food, flowers, accessories. Does this crazy suggestion spark any ideas for you?
A thoughtful party favour idea
A very thoughtful favour could be a poem or song lyrics that matter to you and that you shared at the party. Music and poetry are very evocative and will bring back memories vividly.
A sweet party favour idea
Another idea is to have a polaroid camera and take a picture with each guest. You could even add a personal message on the back.
I hope this post inspires you to use your invitations and favours as an expression of your personality, so that they frame your celebration perfectly. Which ideas resonate with you? Let me know in the comments! Next week, I’ll write about Spanish themed birthday parties. And in the meantime, you can read all posts in the series on planning your Spanish fiesta so far.
