In this post, I would like to introduce to one of my favourite Flamenco songs: Cintas de Color Grana by Carmen Linares.
Watch the video or keep reading below.
The singer: Carmen Linares
Carmen Linares is a one of the most famous contemporary Flamenco singers. She is known internationally and has brought Flamenco to a wide audience. Her career now already spans 5 decades and I would have loved to have been there when she sang in “El Amor Brujo” by Manuel de Falla.

The song and her voice
I think the song is about love and how it can come and go, grow and subside. It’s very poetic and paints various countryside images, like transporting wheat, the scent of basil, the full moon.
It also evokes a beautiful setting in Granada and mentions the Alhambra, where I absolutely loved visiting when I spent time in Granada.
Most importantly it’s sung with such depth and her voice is so tremendously sonorous in it, that it stops me in my tracks whenever it comes on.
Where to find the song
Unlike the film Carmen by Carlos Saura, which I talked about in the first part of this series, this song is easy to find. It’s on Spotify! So it’s easy to play it any time you like. I invite you to play it through your best speakers straight after this video ends to fully enjoy it. Here is the link to Cintas de color grana by Carmen Linares on Spotify.
